Jerry Rice Named Commissioner of the Inaugural Fantasy Football Open Championship

NEW YORK, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ — Jerry Rice, the greatest wide receiver of all-time, has been named the commissioner of the inaugural Fantasy football Open Championship (FFOC), which will award the first-ever $1 Million Grand Prize in Fantasy Football. With combined prize money of nearly $2 million, the inaugural FFOC will provide the richest payout in fantasy football history in an effort to find the best player in the world. At a ceremony in Las Vegas at the end of Week 16 of the NFL season, Rice will award the prestigious Millionaire Jacket to history’s first-ever fantasy football millionaire. Visit for more details.
“I’m excited to be a part of a fantasy football contest of this magnitude,” said Jerry Rice, the future NFL Hall of Famer. “In football, we settled the score on the field. Now with the Fantasy football Open Championship, fantasy football has its own competitive arena to find out who’s the best. The money isn’t bad either.”
Rice will draft his own team and share his thoughts and insights from week to week via commissioner’s blog. In addition to the grand prize, the top 15 finalists will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas to attend the event finale and compete for $1,731,000 in prizes. The top three tournament finishers will receive $1,000,000, $350,000 and $150,000.
Fantasy football fans can join the FFOC, powered by Fanball, the leading fantasy sports media company, for an entry fee as low as $125 and test their skills against the world’s best fantasy football players. League rules are fairly standard and will incorporate Weeks 1-16. The winner will be determined by the sum of three combined scores: average points from Week 1 through Week 10; average points from Week 11 through Week 15; and points from Week 16.
